NOTTS COUNTY 0 BRENTFORD 0

The Bees completed an arduous week with a goalless draw at Notts County. Having completed the six hundred mile round trip to Newcastle about five o'clock on Thursday morning after 120 minutes play against the Premiership`s form side, the Bees had to pick themselves up for the journey north to take on a County side who themselves had fought valiantly in midweek at home to First Division form side Manchester City. The Bees made just one change bringing Adrian Caceras back in to the exclusion of Ijah Anderson. After just two minutes from a long Paul Gibbs throw, Ben Burgess headed on for Jason Price to volley well wide of the target. Five minutes later and a cross from Gary Owers was headed over his own bar by Darren Powell. In the 14th minute a Kevin Nicholson cross from the left was headed high over the bar by Marcel Cas some eighteen yards out. A minute later the Division's leading scorer Danny Allsopp saw his free kick beaten down by Oli Gott with Cas sending the rebound over the bar. Then midway through the half Allsopp`s cross from the left flew to the far post where Cas at full stretch fired wide of the target. The Bees broke to the far end but once the move broke down Nicholson sent in a shot from twenty yards out which Oli did well to save. The Bees had had their fair share of the play but had rarely threatened in the early stages. A terrific ball by Paul Evans in the 34th minute was waiting for a visiting player to latch on to. But it flew across the area without anyone getting the all-important touch. As the half time whistle approached the Bees were stepping up a gear but were still unable to break the home defence down. But in the second period we were to see the best of the Bees. After 48 minutes Caceras made room in the box following a good move involving Burgess and Lloyd Owusu. He made room for a shot, which was well saved by Steve Mildenhall. Three minutes later and a cross from Michael Dobson was cleared under pressure by Nick Fenton for a corner. Gibbo drilled the corner in and Darren Powell beyond the far post headed wide. On the hour mark Darren Caskey sent in a free kick to the far post. It was headed back into the area in front of goal whereupon Ian Baraclough saw his header drift wide of the target. Five minutes later Owusu received the ball in the area. But having seemingly lost control he gathered the ball again and saw his shot on the turn saved by Mildenhall. With twenty minutes remaining Kevin O`Connor replaced Burgess. Within seconds Evo received a misplaced midfield ball just over the half way line and seeing the keeper off his line sent in one of his specials which flew just wide of the post with the keeper stranded in no man's land. Four minutes later and an Evans corner was headed over the bar by Powell. Ten minutes remaining and the Bees made their second substitution bringing Martin Rowlands on for Jason Price. In the 81st minute an excellent centre from Caceras was sliced away by Fenton in front of his own goal. Richardson became County's first sub in the 81st minute replacing Caskey. In the remaining ten minutes of the match the Bees dominated play and time and time again they managed to get behind the County back line only to fail with the killer punch. When the final whistle was blown the Bees, whilst maybe satisfied to have come away from Notts County with a point, can feel, justifiably, that they may well have claimed all three. Once again though they didn't concede a goal which is no surprise given the performance again of Ingimarsson and Powell in particular. They are way and above the best central defensive partnership in the lower divisions, with Powelly truly majestic this afternoon. The Bees fans in good voice as always behind one of the goals, had received some sad news as they arrived, on hearing that life long, loyal Bees fan Bernie Watson had been killed in a tragic accident earlier in the week. They certainly would have made him feel proud with their constant support throughout the afternoon. They too played their part in another fine result for the Bees, and one which sets up the week ahead perfectly.with home games against the two clubs ahead of them in the League, Bristol City (Tuesday) and Oldham (Saturday). Bees: Gottskalksson, Dobson, Ingimarsson, Powell, Gibbs, Price (Rowlands 80), Evans, Mahon, Caceras, Burgess (O`Connor 70), Owusu. Subs unused: P Smith, Anderson and Williams. Attendance: 5,043
