Another four goal salvo from the Bees at Griffin Park this afternoon, put paid to Colchester United`s ambitions of putting their midweek defeat at Stoke behind them. The Bees who themselves lost in midweek came back in perfect style to claim all three points against fellow pacesetters United.
Paul Evans put the Bees one up in the 4th minute from the penalty spot after Ben Burgess had been felled by Alan White.
But United came back to level the scores in the middle of a rain storm, when Scott McLeish thrashed the ball home having run in on to a fine ball from Thomas Pinault.
But the Bees regained the lead in the 33rd minute through yet another corker from Ben Burgess. Michael Dobson played a long free kick forward which was headed on by LLoyd Owusu. Treble B picked up the ball and with three players around him hit the ball high into the net on the turn.
Sixteen minutes into the second period the Bees won e free kick about thirty yards out. Man of the Match Gavin Mahon knocked the ball forward and Evo latched on to it and whipped the ball beyond the outstretched arms of ex Bee Andy Woodman and into the corner of the net for his 8th goal of the season.
The Bees made it four in the 82nd minute when a glorious centre from 68th minute substitute Martin Rowlands was deftly headed home by Lloyd Owusu.
Four minutes later and an incredible decision by the referee gave Cambridge a penalty. The Assistant was clearly flagging for offside against United but a split second later Kem Izzet was upended by Ijah Anderson in the area. The referee walked across to the Assistant and after a lengthy discussion amazingly awarded a penalty for an incident AFTER the offside. Justice was granted when McLeish fired wide from the spot, but unfortunately the incident saw Ijah sent off for the challenge having received a yellow card earlier.
The win takes the Bees back up to fourth place.
Bees: Gottskalksson, Dobson, Powell, Ingimarsson, Anderson, Price (Rowlands 68), Evans, Mahon, Gibbs, Burgess, Owusu (Williams 87). subs not used: P Smith, O`Connor, Caceres.
