Brentford equalled a long standing club record of 69 years by winning seven games on the trot in a season with a 2-0 victory over Blackpool.

The Bees welcomed Michael Dobson at right back after a spell out with injury, Kevin O'Connor took the place of Stephen Hunt, who was starting his three match supension.

'Pool were easily the best side to visit Griffin Park this season, winger Paul Simpson defying the years to send a tream of dangerous balls in from the right.

Twelve minutes in, Brett Omerod for Blackpool hit the bar on the edge on the penalty area, giving the warning signs which were not heeded as Blackpool looked more and more confident as the half progressed.

On 27 minutes Paul Simpson's cross met Bret Omerod whose cross should have reached the target but he headed wide from six yards.


Blackpool again started strongly, and three minutes after the break, another testing cross by Paul Simpson, met Graham Fenton, whose header from the left side of six-yard box hit the woodwork.

The Blackpool number ten was carried off as a result of the lunge to meet the ball and this in turn blunted the 'Pools attack.

Brentford gradually crawled their way into the game, roared on by the biggest "pay" crowd of the season.

On 63 minutes, Steve Sidwell tried from long range but his effort went wide, but within two minutes he sent a superb strike from 25 yards out which Pullen in the Blackpool goal could only stand and watch: BRENTFORD 1 BLACKPOOL 0

With two minutes left on the watch. Lloyd Owusu captalised on a rare defensive error to poke the ball into the net: BRENTFORD 2 BLACKPOOL 0.

Brentford played out the four minutes injury time to send the large crowd home happy and with no further booking incurred either.
