Brentford travelled to Stoke without the services of Paul Gibbs (suspended) and Paul Evans (injured).
The match was fairly even in the first twenty minutes, Owusu and Sidwell troubling the Stoke Goal and Gudjonsson tempted the Potters 8 minutes in. But on 32 minutes Stoke took the lead after their second succesive corner which Powell failed to deal with and Gunnarsson rose above the Brentford defence to head the ball into the bottom right hand corner past the despairing dive of Gottskalksson.

On the stroke of half-time of which two minutes had been awarded for stoppages, The bees were awarded a free kick on the left hand side which Gavin Mahon placed into the area, it found Ben Burgess whose turn and volley found the top left hand corner of the net to give the travelling Bees fans much delight.

Brentford got off to a flying start Lloyd Owusu had as great chance to take the lead but his shot went wide. Disaster struck a minute later Stoke regaining the iniative with an easy tap in after The bees defence went to sleep, Gunnarsson the scorer for Stoke. STOKE CITY 2 BRENTFORD 1.
Five minutes later The Bees were back, Lloyd Owusu's wonderful chip over from a mistake by Peter Handyside. STOKE CITY 2 BRENTFORD 2.
Brentford picked up the tempo for the next ten minutes in search of the third but Stoke had the last word, a needlesss free-kick given away by Martin Rowlands led to a Stoke corner and Iwelumo headed in after Gottskalksson hesitated weather to come off his line and was caught flat footed to give The Potters the final goal. Brentford put Mark Williams and Mark McCammon on but to no avail, Stoke taking all three points to knock Brentford off the top of the table.
