But the best chance of the first half came ten minutesd in when O'Connor crossed from the right hand side and firstly Hunt and then Burgess conspired to miss from just yards out.

But in was Vale who turned up the Screw, twenty minutes gone, Ian Armstrong hitting the Brentford post just moments after Brooker blasted the ball towards an empty goal from a Powell mistake but it hit Dobson and away to safety.
Brentford however, took the lead on the half hour mark, Hunt's re-taken inswinging corner found Owusu. He rose unmarked, and his header found the back of the net.

Ben Burgess had a good claim for a penalty turned down when he was bundled over but play was waived on.
