Brentford fielded an unchanged line up at a very soggy Racecourse Ground.

A superb effort from Paul Evans five minutes in just sailed narrowly over the bar from a free kick and Lloyd Owusu close range volley shortly after went into the arms of David Walsh in the Wrexham goal.

tOpportunities were few and far before Wrexham's first shot of note came in the nineteenth minute, Paul Barrett run and shot from twenty five yards. Two minutes later The Bees twice desperately cleared the ball away following good work from Trundle on the right hand side before Darren Ferguson blasted over.

The Bees took the lead with a goal out of nothing from fully thirty five yards out. Paul Evans blasted the ball along the turf into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

A second looked on the card when Walsh hit a poor clearance to Ben Burgess but Stephen Hunt had his shot well smothered by Walsh.

Evans was instrumental in The Bees second goal with five minutes left of the half. His pass in midfield found Burgess, the striker put in a superb cross from the left hand side and Martin Rowlands hit a clinical first time volley from twelve yards out into the net.

Wrexham forced themself into the game on 52 minutes, Shaun Pejic saw his header puched away to safety from Paul Smith.

Waynne Phillips twenty yards short went just wide of the left post on 64 minutes. Martin Rowlands had a chance to wrap the game up with twenty minutes left but skied the ball over the bar from the edge of the six yards box, Burgess again the provider.

On 74 minutes Rowlands again Ferguson corner, Falconbridge headed just past of the post.

Rowlands effectively put and end to the contest on 77 minutes as he slotted the ball past Walsh after Lawrence's mistake on the half way line was picked up by Evans and he slipped the ball to the 23 year year old from Hanwell, who made no mistake.

Paul Gibbs and Kevin O'Connor replaced Hunt and Owusu respectively and Danny Boxall made his first appearance in a Brentford shirt when he came on for Rowlands with two minutes left. Ijah Anderson hit the post shortly after and The Bees collected all three points.
