So close but yet so far. Jame Cureton's 77th minute equaliser condemned Brentford to the play offs after Martin Rowlands had put Brentford in front.
The atmosphere inside Griffin Park
was electric. The first half was goalless as neither side created a clear cut chance, although Lloyd Owusu went closest for The Bees on the stroke of half time with a shot that Stephen Hunt could quite convert.
After the second half began, Brentford took the game to Reading and went a goal ahead. A superb cross from the right hand side of goal saw Martin Rowlands nip in and his first time shot went past the despairing dive of Phil Whitehead in the Reading goal.
The Bees could hardly believe their luck, but Reading piled on the pressure and levelled with thirteeen minutes remaining, Jamie Cureton latching onto a Parkinson pass to lob the ball over Smith and into the net.
The Bees brought on Mark Williams for Hunt but to no avail and Brentford now face Hudderfield Town the Second Division play -offs.
