Goals from Lloyd Owusu and Darren Powell put The Bees into a Play Off showdown with Stoke City on May 11th in a memorable night at Griffin Park
The Bees fielded an unchanged line up from Sunday's tie, with Mark McCammon stepping onto the bench in place of Mark Williams. With just two minutes on the clock, The Terriers took and unexpected lead. Andy Booth capatilised on a poor Steve Sidwell pass to shoot for goal. The ball seemed safe in keeper Paul Smith's hands but it trickled out of reach and into the net despite a despairing dive from the Bees goalie.
Not to be deterred, Brentford stuck to their task and were rewarded on thirteen minutes. Town's Kevin Gray fouled Lloyd Owusu on the edge of the area, and Paul Evans delivered a pin poin free kick which found Darren Powell, who headed home his second (and most important) goal of the season.
Brentford suffered a blow with eleven minutes left of the half as Martin Rowlands went off with a re-occurance of a long standing groin injury.
His replacement Kevin O'Connor
was instrumental in The Bees second goal a minute after half time. His run in the Town's penalty area was abruptly halted by a foul and with Referee Graham Barber ready to signal for a penalty, Lloyd Owusu pounced on the loose ball to send a superb shot into the corner of the net.
Brentford brought on Danny Boxall for Ben Burgess to steady the ship with fifteen minutes left and Brentford comfortably held out to record a famous victory and another trip to The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on May 11th against Stoke City.
