Two goals from Marino Keith and another from Grant Smith consigned Brentford to their seventh game without a win that will greatly concern Bees boss Wally Downes.
Martin Rowlands was restored to the full eleven for injury victim Eddie Hutchinson, but he could not stop The Bees faltering in the Devon sun. The Bees had plenty of possession from the kick-off, but could not create a significant chance and paid the price in the twelfth minute as The Bees fell behind to a sloppy goal. Pilgrims' top scorer Marino Keith was left unmarked to place past Smith.
Seven minutes later Kevin O'Connor
came closest for Brentford with a free-kick that almost fooled Plymouth goalkeeper Larrieu but he palmed the ball away from danger. Brentford's woes increased further as Plymouth doubled their lead in the 28th minute. Andy Frampton bundled over Marino Keith to concede a direct free-kick outside the Bees penalty area. Even the attention of a six-man wall did not deter Grant Smith, whose daisy-cutter of a shot beat Smith.
Two minutes before half-time, Marino Keith's shot hit the post but The Bees defence breathed a sigh of relief that Paul Wotton somehow failed to convert from inside the six-yard box. Any hopes Brentford had of getting something from the match were extinguished ninety seconds from the restart. Marino Keith latched onto a Jason Bent cross to score from four yards out.
The remainder was tepid, with The Bees efforts restricted to a Curier shot and substitute Mark Williams header that looped over the bar.
