A Stuart Barlow header nine minutes from time denied a much-changed Brentford three points at Edgeley Park.

Wally Downes dropped Jay Smith, Ben May and Tony Rougier, putting Kevin O'Connor wide -transfer-listed Leo Roget taking part in a three-man centre-back formation, plus also recalling Stephen Evans in central midfield.

County could have took the lead after 26 minutes when Simon Lynch was fouled by Ibrahima Sonko, but Bees' goalkeeper Paul Smith superbly saved Jim Goodwin's penalty.

Brentford edged ahead in the 65th minute when Stockport's Danny Jackman stuck a foot out and put the ball past his own goalkeeper after a testing cross from Tommy Wright.

It looked like a win for The Bees but veteran striker Barlow headed home from eighteen yards to give County a draw.
