Brentford ended Wrexham's 100% start to the season with an 85th minute wonder-goal from Kevin O'Connor - earning The Bees all three points. Brentford fielded an unchanged side from their midweek victory over Doncaster.

In a lively encounter, Brentford dominated, first threatening with Burton stealing the ball and putting Chris Hargreaves through. His shot was blocked in the area. Brentford had the best of the early exchanges with Tabb forcing the first save of the game. The early pressure did not convert into goals as Wrexham countered with a Fergusson through ball to Hector Sam. Turner was unable to cut out the precision pass that Sam could not control.

Now it was Wrexham's turn to exert pressure, with the Bees defending resolutely. Llewellyn - finding himself clear with only Nelson to beat - was thwarted by the keeper's alertness. The end-to-end action continued with Brentford having a clear shot on target by Salako. The winger barely missing the target and later proving his worth in providing some skilful crosses from almost impossible positions. Hargreaves now unleashed a scorcher from the edge of the area but straight at the goalkeeper.

The second half started as the first ended with Brentford again pressing. Tabb, striding towards goal, finally unleashed a thunderous 30-yard effort that just missed the target. Tabb was instrumental in the move with a workmanlike performance forcing a corner. Salako shooting wide from the resulting cross. In a rare Wrexham foray Sam was put through only to completely miss the target. The continued pressure from the Bees produced no result with good work from Burton and substitute Rhodes.

Wrexham's defence was eventually breached - Kevin O'Connor's fantastic volley gave Brentford three points with five minutes remaining.
