A last-gasp winner for Deon Burton gave Brentford all three points in a match that looked to be heading for a draw. Isaiah Rankin's cross was met perfectly by Burton, who headed home to the delight of the home support, who have now seen The Bees win seven home League games on the trot this season.
Martin Allen selected John Salako at left-back, in the absence of the suspended Andy Myers and injured Andrew Frampton. An impressive Hartlepool side took the lead with a goal on the half-hour mark, Matty Robson's cross-cum-shot wide from the left evaded the grasp of Stuart Nelson.
That lead was to last just five minutes, with an equaliser straight off the training ground. Kevin O'Connor
's free-kick was headed backwards by Deon Burton for Isaiah Rankin to volley past Jim Provett from six yards - a real poachers finish.
Stuart Nelson made a fine contribution to the game, and stopped the visitors regaining the lead in the 73rd minute. Pool striker Joel Porter raced away with just the Bees 'keeper to beat but Nelson stood firm and smothered the ball. Alex Rhodes, who had replaced a busy Jay Tabb, hit the post with a fierce shot in the 78th minute. With the fourth official about to signal three minutes of added-on time, Burton rose to give Brentford all three points.
