Brentford were held to a goalless draw in the Bank Holiday sunshine against a stubborn and unadventurous Peterborough United at Griffin Park.

Martin Allen made four changes to the team defeated at Blackpool, Andrew Frampton was struck down with flu, Deon Burton was suspended, Chris Hargreaves was injured and Jay Tabb was among the substitutes. Michael Dobson, Eddie Hutchinson, Stephen Hunt and Scott P. Fitzgerald were brought in.

Brentford started brightly, Sam Sodje headed a Hunt free-kick wide, Fitzgerald shot straight at Mark Tyler after Stewart Talbot's through ball found him clear and Tyler had to be alert to tip a Hunt volley around the post. The rest of the half lacked cohesion, Peterborough's back five were content to soak up Brentford's territorial pressure with little ambition to get themselves past the half way line. Two volleys from Curtis Woodhouse, one over the bar and a second blocked by Sodje was the extent of their attacking play.

The second half was a better spectacle with Brentford switching to 4-4-2 after the introduction of Tabb. Darren Pratley had a shot blocked and Brentford had the ball in the net in the 55th minute. Isaiah Rankin latched onto Sodje's through ball, and his cross was deflected past Tyler by Christopher Kanu but the linesman decided the ball had gone out of play before Rankin pulled it back.

Brentford pushed forward, looking for a vital three points with Pratley at the heart and Rankin at the end of most of their forward ideas. Rankin volleyed over after Pratley had set him up the Sean St Ledger denied Rankin with a goal line clearance after Fitzgerald laid off Pratley's through ball. Eddie Hutchinson had a header saved, Kevin O'Connor shot wide and Talbot blasted a shot high after Dobson's initial free kick was blocked.

Peterborough's sole second half attack came through substitute Fola Onibuje. He out muscled Sodje and Pratley on a long run from the half way line, he got inside the area but Stuart Nelson saved his shot and Michael Turner blocked the re-bound from Wayne Purser. Brentford threw everything at their visitors in the final minutes, Rankin had two goal bound volleys blocked with Tyler well beaten and Sodje's header from a Nelson free kick was cleared off the line by Mark Arber but the goal wouldn't come and Brentford had to settle for a point.

Line-up: Nelson; O'Connor, Turner, Sodje, Dobson; Hutchinson (sub Peters 74 mins), Talbot, Pratley; Rankin, Hunt (sub Tabb h/t); Fitzgerald (Scott P).

Subs (not used): Fitzgerald (Scott B), Myers, Bankole.
