Brentford's long unbeaten League Two run came to an end in Cheshire as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Macclesfield Town.
The home side scored late in the first half and early in the second as they pushed The Bees to their first league defeat since the beginning of November.
Former Brentford loan striker Emile Sinclair grabbed the opening goal in stoppage time at the end of the first 45 minutes, capitalising on a defensive mix-up, and fellow forward Gareth Evans smashed home a penalty to seal the win on the hour mark.
The first half was fairly even with Brentford having more of the ball but Ben Hamer the busier goalkeeper.
Evans had the ball in the net early on but his effort was ruled out for offside and Hamer saved well from the powerful striker soon after.
The Bees' stopper also blocked a Richard Walker header and denied Danny Thomas with a low save.
Marcus Bean headed wide for Brentford and Sam Wood scuffed an effort but it looked as if the half was going to end goalless before the visitors gifted Macclesfield a goal.
Alan Bennett was racing back towards his own goal with Sinclair as the pair chased a Nat Brown ball, Hamer came flying out of his goal but the Macclesfield striker headed it past him and rolled the ball in.
Sinclair almost grabbed a second soon after the break but Hamer denied him with a pair of low saves and Charlie MacDonald had a chance at the other end as Brentford broke but his effort was deflected into the arms of Macclesfield goalkeeper Jon Brain.
Mark Phillips could have levelled it up early in the second period when he met a Wood corner at the far post but he headed straight at Brain and seconds later Macclesfield had it just about sewn up.
Izak Reid darted into the penalty area and went down under the challenge of Ryan Dickson to win a penalty - Evans lashed the ball straight down the middle as Hamer went the wrong way.
The home side almost grabbed a third when a low Jamie Tolley cross was turned towards his own goal by Phillips but Hamer saved well down to his right and Brentford scrambled it away.
Sinclair, Evans and Brown shot wide and Brain saved a header from debutante Jordan Rhodes at the other.
The on-loan striker then had a shot deflected wide before Karleigh Osborne headed wide at the far post.
Brentford battled for a way back into the game and Bean fired over from distance as they pressed for a goal but it wouldn't come and The Bees headed back to London with nothing to show for their efforts.
