Brentford ended the season in the perfect fashion as two late goals gave them a win against a dogged, and already relegated, Luton Town side.
The Bees dominated the game, so much so that Ben Hamer did not have a save to make until inside the final 15 minutes, but Luton were determined to leave the Football League without a defeat and managed to keep the home side at bay until the later stages.
Goalkeeper Dean Brill was largely responsible for the score line remaining blank for so long but in a match where both teams knew their fate before a ball was kicked there were not many chances.
Billy Clarke headed wide very early on for Brentford and an Adam Newton cross-cum-shot flew across the face of goal soon after.
Brill made a fine low save to keep out a fierce Sam Wood volley and made an even better save late in the first period after the move of the match.
David Hunt, Sam Wood and Ryan Dickson combined on the left and opened up the visitors with a series of incisive passes - when Dickson picked out Clarke with a low cross the forward's shot looked destined for the bottom corner but Brill saved superbly.
Sam Williams had a header saved soon after and Wood sliced a volley over close to the end of the first period.
Karleigh Osborne and Glenn Poole were brought on and the two nearly combined for a goal early in the second half when the former's header from the latter's corner was blocked.
John Halls fired a long range effort off target soon after while at the other end Luton finally registered a shot when Chris Martin fired miles wide after a nice turn.
It was starting to look as if the game would end scoreless when Poole drifted in a free kick and Osborne rose to head powerfully home.
George Pilkington almost equalised within two minutes but his header from a Jake Howells corner went straight at Hamer.
Substitute Moses Ademola almost set up a second for Sam Williams but his cross was just too far ahead of the loan striker but the second did come in the last minute.
Ademola split the home defence with a ball which sent Hunt through, he picked out Adam Newton and the wide man cut inside to curl the ball home.
