Jordan Rhodes struck a 94th minute equaliser as Brentford climbed to the top of League Two with a 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley.
The Bees looked set to continue their miserable run in the north west when the home side led in stoppage times but Rhodes raced onto a John Halls through ball, held off Kieron Charnock and lashed the ball past Kenny Arthur to earn his side a share of the spoils.
The Bees deserved their equaliser as the dominated possession, particularly in the second half and Arthur was the busier goalkeeper.
They would also have been unfortunate to lose as the home side's goal had an element of fortune about it.
John Kissock picked up a long ball from a goal kick - as Brentford appealed for a corner - and had a shot - the ball broke fortunately back to him with defenders committed, he slipped the ball to James Ryan who fired home.
A draw was probably fair as it was a tight game and neither team created lots of chances.
Arthur made the first save of the evening, tipping over a looping Rhodes header and Sam Wood fired a shot wide soon after.
Charnock headed wide under pressure at the other end and Ben Hamer had to be alert to smother at the feet of Craig Lindfield before he saved well from a low Ryan shot and tipped the loose ball away.
The Bees' keeper saved again from Leam Richardson and then a weak Lindfield effort before the same player saw a chipped shot headed away by John Halls.
Brentford also had half chances, Marcus Bean saw a shot blocked after a good break by Charlie MacDonald and Wood saw his fizzing shot fly inches wide.
Alan Bennett saw a header deflected wide and then headed over late in the half and Paul Mullin could have given the hosts the lead before the break when a Peter Cavanagh free kick fell to him 10 yards out but he scuffed his shot and Hamer saved.
The Bees almost had the perfect start to the second half when MacDonald found space in behind, his low shot appeared to be tipped away by Arthur but a goal kick was given and as Brentford protested Ryan went up the other end and scored.
Brentford tried to fight back and Rhodes saw a shot fly over but Accrington also had chances - Richardson forced a low save out of Hamer and Lindfield should have settled things when Paul Mullin put him clear but he blazed over.
Nathan Elder was thrown into the fray as Brentford pushed forward - MacDonald looked set to equalise when he rounded Arthur after picking up a great Wood pass but his shot was cleared off the line by Colin Murdock.
Elder had a shot saved and then saw an effort bobble wide and he thought he had won a penalty when Murdock appeared to unfairly prevent him reaching a Mark Phillips cross but nothing was given.
Wood had a shot blocked and Rhodes forced a save from Arthur after a dart into the box before MacDonald had a snap shot saved.
The Bees looked set to leave empty handed before Rhodes raced clear to lash home and send his team to the top of the table.
