Striker Oumare Tounkara scored one and made one as Brentford were beaten by Oldham Athletic.
The home side recorded a 2-1 win at Boundary Park with a goal in each half.
Robbie Simpson pulled one back for The Bees inside the last ten minutes but they could not find the equalising goal.
There wasn't much to choose between the teams in the first 40 minutes, and few efforts of note.
Leon Legge made a good tackle to deny Tounkara and Richie Jones shot over before Warren Feeney looped a header off target.
Legge headed over and the other end for Brentford before débutante Owain Tudur Jones nodded wide.
Tounkara shot wide and then blasted over from 12 yards when a Dale Stephens shot fell fortuitously for him.
Gary Alexander sliced a snap shot wide and Toumani Diagouraga bobbled a shot wide before Oldham took the lead with the first effort on target of the day.
Feeney slipped the ball through and Tounkara raced clear to score, Richard Lee got something on the low shot but could not keep it out.
Legge looped a header just over as Brentford sought an immediate riposte but Oldham ended the half strongly.
Dean Furman had a shot deflected over after a fine run by Chris Taylor and Lee held a looping Tounkara header.
Brentford responded well after half time, although Oldham had the first openings of the second period.
Richie Jones shot over from the edge of the box and Taylor headed over on the stretch from close range after a good cross by substitute Filipe Morais.
Marc Laird volleyed over for Brentford and Lee saved well from Morais at the other end.
Oldham goalkeeper Ben Amos was called in to action to save at the feet of Nicky Forster after a long ball caught the home defence out and Tudur Jones headed a Laird free kick wide when well placed soon after.
But Oldham seemed to have killed the game off with 20 minutes remaining - Tounkara bullied his way into space and fed Morais, he worked his way inside and drilled the ball low past Lee and into the net.
Tounkara almost made it three when he latched on to a ball through, Lee saved at his feet but the ball broke to Morais, his shot was arrowing towards the net but Legge headed away.
Brentford found a way back into the game when Craig Woodman swung over a cross, Tudur Jones nodded down and substitute Simpson, controlled, swivelled and volleyed into the net in one movement.
The Bees had the better of the later stages as they sought a leveller.
Tudur Jones had a volley blocked and headed off target while Myles fired acrobatically wide.
But they couldn't find a way through and Oldham took the points.
