Second-half goals from Mollie Holmes, Rhia Benjamin, and Bahrati Keeping ensured that Brentford Women's FC ended their Greater London Women's Football League Division One campaign on a winning note after a 3-0 victory over Luton Town Development at Stockwood Park Athletics Stadium on Sunday.
The Bees ran out 5-0 winners when the two sides met last weekend but it was an all-together tighter affair this time round. After a goalless opening 45 minutes, The Bees took the lead shortly after the break: Holmes netting her third penalty against The Hatters in two weeks following a foul on Lisa Grant. Benjamin made it 2-0 shortly afterwards with a fine volley from the edge of the box before Keeping added a third late on to round off the scoring. The win means that The Bees will finish the season in fourth place, unless Hampton and Richmond win their remaining three games and overturn an inferior goal difference.
The Development Team suffered penalty heartbreak as they were beaten by Actonians' Development in the Quarter-Final of the Division Three South Invitational Cup at Lampton School. Things couldn't have started better for The Bees as Kelly Mackay netted inside a minute but the visitors sent the match to spot-kicks late on after an error in Brentford's backline allowed Ruby Kline to equalise. Lucy Johnson and Mackay scored from 12 yards but Julie Cartmell and Naomi Totten were both denied as Actonians' went through 4-2 on penalties to set up a semi-final against East London Ladies.
