John Egan has been included in Martin O'Neill's 27 man squad for the Republic of Ireland's crucial 2018 World Cup Qualifier against Wales this weekend. The Irish take on The Welsh at The Aviva Stadium on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm before taking on the European Championship Quarter-Finalists Iceland in a friendly at the same venue the following Tuesday, also a 7.45pm kick-off.
Ireland currently top Group D with ten points from four games, four points clear of Wales in third. Victory for O'Neill's side would cement their place in the top two of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
24-year-old John has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Sky Bet Championship following his move from Gillingham in the summer. The defender scored twice on his home debut against Ipswich Town and has four goals in total from 36 appearances.
John has been capped by Ireland at Under-17, Under-19, and Under-21 level but this is his first call up to the full Ireland squad.
