Former Swindon Town man puts pen to paper at Griffin Park

Brentford Football Club have signed Alan McCormack on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old Irishman left Swindon Town at the end of the 2012/13 season when his contract expired.

Alan put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the 2014/15 season this afternoon.

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Sporting Director, said: “We are delighted to see Alan join us here at Griffin Park and he will undoubtedly have a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

“As captain of a strong Swindon Town team last season he clearly displayed excellent leadership and motivational skills and his experience will naturally benefit the development of the many young players we have in the First Team squad.

“Alan is a versatile player who will provide cover in a number of positions alongside his more recognised midfield role.

“We are looking forward to seeing him join us for the start of pre-season and to observing his performances in the season ahead.”

Alan started out at Preston North End and had loan spells at Leyton Orient and Motherwell as well as two stints at Southend United during the early days of his career.

He joined Southend permanently in 2007 and helped United reach the League One Play-Offs in 2008, where they lost to Doncaster Rovers.

He joined Charlton Athletic in 2010 and moved to Swindon a year later.

Alan was part of the Swindon team which won npower League Two and reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final in 2011/12, usually playing in the centre of defence.

He also captained The Robins for a part of that season and was named ‘Player of the Year’ at the Wiltshire club.

He played 45 games in all competitions for Swindon last year in both defence and midfield and captained the side for the majority of the season.

Alan played in all four games between Swindon and Brentford last season and featured in the centre of midfield in both Play-Off ties.

Alan spoke to Bees Player after completing the deal – subscribers can see a video interview soon.
