Brentford have signed Everton’s Uruguayan striker Leandro Rodríguez on loan. The 23-year-old completed the switch today, Thursday 17 March, and trained with The Bees ahead of the Sky Bet Championship game against Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park on Saturday. The forward will remain with Brentford initially until 14 April and will wear the number 20 shirt.
Dean Smith, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Leandro comes highly recommended and arrives at a good time for us. It is nice to be able to bring in a player on loan and we are thankful that Everton have allowed him to come. He trains with their First Team every day and is very highly thought of. We do not want to put too much pressure on him but he will give us a lift and we believe he can help us to end our current run of form.”
Leandro has been with Everton since the end of August 2015. The striker – whose full name is Leandro Joaquin Rodríguez Telechea – joined the Merseyside outfit from River Plate Montevideo. His form in the Uruguayan top division – scoring 10 goals in 27 games in 2014/15 – caught the attention of Everton and he moved to England at the start of the season. He made his Everton debut against Dagenham and Redbridge in the Emirates FA Cup in January.
