RYAN PICKS THE BEES
Bees Boss Andy Scott has made his first major move in the transfer market by signing, for an undisclosed fee, Ryan Dickson on a long term contract.
21 year old left sided player Ryan originally joined the Club in November on loan from Plymouth Argyle since when he has made 10 appearances, including one as a substitute, more recently operating at left full back.
In acquiring Ryan for The Bees, Brentford beat off competition from other interested clubs.
On signing Ryan said: "I'm really happy to join the Club. It's a great opportunity for me to play first team football. Since Andy took over he has turned things round rapidly, and the boys have responded by doing really well and that's something we want to continue doing."
When asked about his initial reaction to joining the Club in November he said: "When I first came here we weren't exactly in the best of form. The team spirit was quite good but obviously when you're losing you do start to lose some confidence. But now we look more of a team and look far more solid on the pitch. We feel good about ourselves and have a lot of confidence both in our own ability and each others. But of course we need to keep grounding out results and then hopefully keep pushing further up the table."
He was asked about his playing position: "When I first came here I was playing left midfield. But when we played MK Dons Andy said he wanted to keep it tighter and more solid. It's not the first time I'd played in that position and I have to say I feel quite comfortable in that role."
Finally we spoke of THAT goal: "Yes, it was quite a goal Pooley scored from my corner against Wycombe. We had tried it a few times in training and I scuffed it over and Pooley scuffed it home. But Pooley has great technique and it really was a great strike on the day. It would be nice to get on the score sheet myself though although it may be a bit more difficult from left back, but you never know as I do get the opportunity to go forward."
On completion of the formalities we spoke to Andy Scott and asked him for his reaction to Ryan's signing. He said: "It's a real bonus for us and a big boost for the Club, myself and the team. He's been a major part of the success we've enjoyed recently and to acquire someone of Ryan`s ability made me even more determined to get him. It says a lot about the player that he joined us, not for the money but because he felt that we are a progressive and forward thinking club. At 21 there's a lot of football ahead of him. He's adapted well having been made a left back but he has all the attributes you require to allow him to take it on successfully. He's quick and has a good left foot and he's exciting to watch. "
Andy then spoke of others who had been interested in signing Ryan: "Yes, we beat off a lot of competition for his signing and that for me is very pleasing, not just for the team but as a club for it means we can attract players ahead of other clubs."
Finally we asked Andy if Ryan's signing would be the first of others. He said: "Well it's a positive start and it shows our intentions in the transfer market. At this stage in January clubs are very cagey and players don't necessarily want to move until the end of the month. Things certainly don't happen overnight but we are working very hard on our options of bringing some more players in that will add to the side and make us a stronger squad."
