ANDY SCOTT'S POST-MATCH COMMENTS
"It was a scrappy game. I think when we all saw the weather conditions we knew it was going to be. But that's League Two football sometimes; even when the weather is not like that it is going to be scrappy and you have to be physically and mentally tough to get through it.
There were a few hairy moments but I think in the end we deserved it. We could have played a lot better but after the recent disappointing results we've had lately you can take a lot of positives out of today.
Ironically the wind didn't help either side. You can get drawn into playing a certain way when you have the wind with you and I think in the first half when we put them under pressure we could have had a few more efforts on goal. I thought the two centre halves were outstanding.
Equally in the second half I thought Nathan Elder couldn't be marked. He did it the right way too. He wasn't overly aggressive but is a brute of a man and he terrifies the life out of defenders and I thought he was outstanding.
And for Kevin O'Connor to come back after only four days training and to show that level of professionalism is a testament to him. To come back and last 90 mins and put in that performance, well I was very pleased for him.
We're working very hard on the lads. It was pleasing to see Ricky get two goals and we've been working on our midfield four in particular. Various things, especially getting crosses in from one side and make sure we're closing in at the far post because we can get more chances that way. We didn't do that at Morecambe and it probably cost us a few goals.
They're great learners who love being on the training ground and if they've got a question they'll ask it. It's a pleasure to coach them and I think Bully has found it refreshing to come in and work with them too. He's had a big impact this week, it's given both of us a chance to work on the defensive side as well as attacking side of things and it paid off.
I was delighted with Ricky, who has worked ever so hard all year. He got a couple of good goals and can hopefully get a few more this season.
Yes, John Mousinho has still got a lot to learn but he is a sponge who will just soak up the information and once he's been told something he doesn't have to be told again. We're showing him videos and people doing it on the training ground and he'll get there in the end.
It was a big blow to lose Gary but for John to come in and produce that performance was a big plus for us. He's a physical presence in there and I think people underestimate the fact that he can pass the ball well.
Gary has taken a whack in his ribs and he's gone to hospital to make sure he hasn't done a Matty Heywood.
No, Matt has trained this week. We've got to speak to the consultant to see when he can play. But it is hard holding him back because he is desperate to play again. We're trying to keep him out of harm's way but when you've got someone like Matt who wants to train you've got to let him. He could be involved on Monday.
Karleigh has come on in leaps and bounds. It is exciting; we sit in the office after training and analyse how it has gone and who needs more work. Then we look at a board on the wall and we can see the strides players like Karleigh and Ryan Dickson have made and it is very exciting for the future.
When Nathan coming in and once he is 100% fit and has a bit more coaching well I think he might be unplayable at times. Alan Bennett talks Karleigh through the game and Karleigh is picking that up and learning from him.
He knows he's got a chance in this game. It is inevitable there are clubs who will be looking at him. He is 20 years old and has all the attributes to be a top class player and if he keeps improving in the way he has he will be very hard to hold on to.
I've got Bully in because what we did when he was a coach when I was playing here worked and I enjoyed it. I think you can go too far away from the old methods that work. You need to move with the times and the science side of things is important, but the most important thing is having happy players who want to come in and train and play for the club.
We're anchored in 12th place in the table at the moment but my aim is to get into the top 10. We need to finish the season strongly. We need to put back to back victories together. We need to show we can go to Grimsby on another cold day and get a result because we haven't done that lately and have lost at places like Morecambe.
Bully and I have been watching players and talking to agents and the aim is to add players who will make us a stronger squad that can compete for 50 games next season."
Many thanks to Simon Webster
