Brentford striker Nathan Elder played down the impact he had as he came off the bench to help his side to a 1-1 draw against Aldershot Town.
The powerful centre forward had made a difference immediately after his half time introduction as Brentford came from a goal down at half time to earn a point thanks to a Glenn Poole penalty.
But he was quick to call the fight back a team effort.
"I don't think I changed the game," said Elder. "It was a collective effort.
"I tried my best when I came on - I came off the bench thinking 'we are 1-0 down, do what you are good at'.
"I think I did but I need to get consistency so it happens for 90 minutes."
Elder said he was not surprised to be dropped and it may turn out to be exactly what he needs as he emphasised the frustration of sitting on the bench.
"I spoke to the gaffer [Andy Scott] after Monday [the 1-1 draw at Notts County] and he wasn't happy," said Elder.
"It makes you appreciate your position, I think I needed it.
"It shows you no-one is safe in this team, which is good.
"Starting on the bench reminded me of being at Brighton and not playing; it makes you appreciate it and shows you have to keep it going.
"I was itching in my seat, when you get used to starting you forget what that feels like.
"It showed me that in future games I have to be itching from the start."
Goal scorer Poole said he was pleased to get on the score sheet for the third game in a row but was quick to stress how much the strike meant to the team.

"It kept our [unbeaten] run going," he said. "That's the most important thing.
"For the first 20 minutes we were atrocious - we kept giving the ball away and we weren't creating anything.
"For the last twenty minutes of the first half we got a foothold in the game and we said at half time if we got the first goal of the second half we wouldn't lose.
"And we should have won it.
"But we are going into games with the mentality that we are not going to lose."
The Bees midfielder said he set himself a target of ten goals for the season and with six to his name he is over halfway there already.
"I set a target of ten every year and for the last five years I have only not got there once.
"I wanted four before Christmas, and I have six.
"Goals are a big part of my game and I have taken penalties at every club I have been at.
"I like the pressure; I like the responsibility of taking them.
"And I have only missed two."
