SCOTTY: WE WANT TO PROGRESS AS FAR AS WE CAN
Following Sunday's FA Cup first round win, Andy Scott spoke to the press and said he wanted his side's cup run to continue for as long as possible.
"It was always going to be a tricky one. There were a few upsets yesterday (Saturday). I'm delighted we are through to the second round and that we don't have another game in the schedule as we want to keep as many people as fresh as possible"
"We want to progress as far as we can, earn some money and perhaps pit our wits against better sides. We know if we do a job at Eastbourne or Barrow we might get one of those draws in the Third Round.
"We've got a few lads who have played at non league grounds and know what it is about. It could be another windy and rainy day but that's part of the FA Cup and we would have to negotiate that..."
Andy commented that the adverse weather conditions could in fact have favoured his team against the non-leaguers.
"It was really, really windy and swirling. It didn't really change our game plan but it just made it a little bit more effective.
"We knew it would be a scrappy game and came here with the idea in our heads that we were a non-league team and would be playing exactly the same as they would be, and that the conditions would dictate that. We wanted to play in their half and it wasn't pretty but it didn't have to be and we got the job done."
Andy reserved praise for several outstanding individual performances, as well as that of the overall team.
"I thought that Kevin O'Connor and Marcus Bean were absolutely magnificent against their three midfield players. They really worked hard and gave us a solid foundation.
"We did a professional job. I would have liked it to be more comfortable and Ben Hamer made a fantastic save at 2-1 but we shouldn't have let them back in the game in the first place.
"Ben kept us in the game and we went down the other end and got the third goal we probably warranted. To be honest if we had taken a bit more care in the final third we could have had more goals.
"Strikers need goals. I think Nathan's work rate and perseverance paid off and he got his reward in the end. Charlie (MacDonald) got another goal which is good.
"Charlie is a very good player. I think up front Nathan benefits from playing alongside him and Charlie guides him through games sometimes. He works very hard and you can't ask for much more."
