We have received a number of e-mails from supporters in relation to events to the match on Saturday v Luton Town.
Regarding the blast horns, these were introduced to try and assist a party atmosphere and followed the thundersticks/bam bams that were handed out prior to the Accrington Stanley game. The latter were introduced following a request from our Team Manager as he and the players noted and felt a lack of atmosphere/noise in the ground in the previous matches. The blast horns and pyrotechnics were something that I take full responsibility for - blast horns will not be encouraged or handed out at future games at Griffin Park and I would sincerely apologise to those fans who felt that their day wasn't as enjoyable as it could and should have been.
With regards to the pitch invasions, a similar number of complaints were received. I've spoken with our Safety and Stadium Officer and agree with him that Brentford Football Club are very disappointed that people decided to encroach on to the playing surface from the Ealing Road Terrace thus not allowing the players to complete a lap of honour. Football fans have always encroached on to pitches to celebrate since fencing around football pitches were removed following the Hillsborough disaster and we maintain that the correct number of stewards were deployed but due to the exuberance and sheer number of those who wanted to invade the pitch, the stewards were unfortunately powerless to stop them. A thorough check of the PA System will take place and any necessary works completed during the close season.
The management team and players return from their trip to Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday 17th May and Andy Scott will be at the Funday here at Griffin Park later that day, with players and with the trophy, so there will be opportunities for photographs and to meet Andy and players at that time.
