KEVIN SIGNS ON
Brentford are delighted to announce that Kevin O'Connor has signed a new two year contract with the Club.
27 year old Kevin, who was granted a Testimonial by the Club, has made 351 appearances (and scored 34 goals) for the Club he joined as a youngster.
Kevin said: "I am delighted to have re signed at Brentford. I spoke with the manager about his ambitions for the future of Brentford Football Club and his transfer targets for the summer and am genuinely excited about the forthcoming season. No one should under estimate the strength of League 1 this year but I am confident we are building a squad that will be able to compete with whoever we play"
As a generalisation regarding the signing of players, supporters who are understandably forever searching for news about the Club as we all eagerly looking forward to the new season, may be interested to know the following:
Players for all clubs are contracted until June 30th which is a Football League requirement and at the end of the season clubs announce those players who will not be offered a new contract. Players who are offered new contracts by their existing clubs however are free to negotiate with other clubs with a view to being registered with effect from July 1st but remain contracted to their current club until June 30th inclusive.
Players in this position who reach agreements with a new club will not be registered with their new club until July 1st and certainly as a matter of policy by Brentford Football Club there would be no announcement until July 1st, and then only after notifying the players former club, as a matter of business courtesy, in order that statements can be synchronised.
Players who have been released by their clubs without being offered a contract for the following season are free to sign for a new club with effect from July 1st and generally, given that the club holding the registration until June 30th has no wish to retain the player, in such circumstances an announcement would be made upon signing and subject to agreement by both clubs.
Rest assured we are working extremely hard to bring in some exciting new players whilst also making every effort to retain and extend some of those players already with us and we will of course be only too pleased to announce all the detail as soon as we can
