Brentford goalkeeper Nikki Bull said he has no intention of spending the season sitting on the bench after making his début in the Carling Cup defeat against Bristol City.
Bull, who signed for The Bees days before the start of the season after leaving Aldershot Town, was between the sticks for the tie as Lewis Price, who started in the win at Carlisle on Saturday, is away on international duty.
Bull was unable to prevent Nicky Maynard scoring the winner for City just before the hour mark but made a number of saves and intends to secure the number one spot.
"I played more than 300 games [for Aldershot]," he said. "Sitting on the bench is alien to me. It's not something I want to do for long.
"I knew that Lewis Price had a full pre-season and after leaving Aldershot I only had a couple of weeks.
"I knew I was coming in and would start on the bench but I have played a lot of games and want to get in the team."
Bull, who said he left Aldershot because he needed a change after seven years, said it was a shame The Bees did not get a win against City.
"When you come up against Championship opposition you have to impose yourselves," he continued. "In the first half we played some fantastic football.
"It was a shame we didn't get the goal, it was a game where [it was important for] the team that scored first."
