Brentford manager Andy Scott said he had to give credit to the performance of Brighton and Hove Albion, who held his side to a 0-0 draw in their first League One match at Griffin Park.
Scott said he felt his side had the better of the draw, which left his side fifth in the embryonic table, and could have won it.
"The only side that was going to win it was us," continued Scott. "They defended well, give credit to them, they made it difficult for us.
"Overall, as a team, I thought in the second half we looked very solid, we kept the ball in their half.
"We kept the pressure on them, dominated territorially, but didn't have the last bit to break them down and create chances."
Scott was pleased with the clean sheet his side kept and said he was hoping to see progress every game.
"Everyone is still learning," he added. "We are learning from experiences.
"We will not be able to play at the top level every week.
"We are getting used to each other's games.
"[Brighton manager] Russell Slade brought in 12 players [over the summer] himself.
"They have had two poor results and needed something out of today.
"They have huge strength in depth, we will have to get used to playing teams with squads like that.
"But it's 11 on the pitch that count and I fancy our 11 against any in this league."
