Brentford midfielder Marcus Bean said he was "really happy" to be back in the action after he missed the opening two games of the season.

Bean replaced David Hunt inside the last 15 minutes of Brentford's 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at Griffin Park to make his first appearance of the season.

And Bean, who scored nine goals last season, almost snatched the winner in stoppage time but was just unable to turn in a Cleveland Taylor cross.

"The boys were saying to me I shouldn't have slid," said Bean, speaking about the late chance. "I saw the keeper coming and I thought there would be a collision.

"I was millimetres from putting it in.

"On another day I would have.

"I'm really happy to be back involved, I'm not too bad [watching games] but I'm not the best.

"The boys have started really well, it's nice to be a part of it."

Bean said he thought Brentford performed well in spells and was confident the team were good enough to carry on picking up results.

"We are still learning in this league and we got a good result last Saturday," he continued. "I haven't seen anything to be scared of.

"I don't think there is much difference at all [between League One and League Two].

"The teams that came up from League Two will do well this season.

"We are well organised we know our jobs."
