Brentford's confidence was sky high as they went into this game against a Barnet side who had picked up just the one point so far this season. And come the half time break the hosts had built up an unassailable lead.
For all their dominance from the off it surprisingly took twenty five minutes for The Bees to break the deadlock. It was the "in form" David Pitt who broke it when latching on to a long through ball before running on and coolly slotting home. It was a just reward for the same player who had seen earlier efforts saved. The goal was the catalyst for a host of goals which were to find their way into the back of the Barnet net prior to the half time break.
Number two was scored after Geoff Banks-Smith had been brought down just outside the area. Jake Reeves stepped up and saw his free kick take a wicked deflection past the hapless keeper.
Number three was a classic from David Pitt. Picking up the ball wide on the left his control left two defenders for dead and as he made his way into the box he duly wrong footed the keeper before rolling the ball into the empty net.
Number four followed within minutes when triallist Shaun Lucien fired home from inside the area.
Number five came with two minutes left on the clock and saw James Zanelli take on three players before striking home from outside the area into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Even then there was still time for another before the break and Kyle Vassell duly obliged
The second half saw the visitors give a better account of themselves whilst Brentford took their foot off the pedal and the scoreline remained as it did after 45 minutes.
