Brentford manager Andy Scott hailed the "bottle" of his players as they came back from a goal down to record a 2-1 win over Southend United.
Kevin O'Connor scored two penalties in the last quarter of the match to give The Bees the win after the fell behind inside the first ten minutes when an assistant referee judged goalkeeper Nikki Bull had carried a Simon Francis free kick over his own line.
Scott questioned whether Southend's goal should have been awarded but was in little doubt his side deserved the points.
"I think we played reasonably well in the first half," he said. "They scored a goal without having a shot, although whether it was a goal or not I don't know.
"The linesman said he was in line but we have seen photographs from a photographer on the goal line and it doesn't look in.
"Our players said it wasn't close but you have to believe the linesman, he said it's a goal so it's a goal.
"Although a few minutes later he gave a throw in when it wasn't close so you start to question his judgement.
"At half time it was a case of making sure the injustice of the goal against us didn't harm us and we did something about it.
"I asked them to show bottle and everyone did.
"I thought we were excellent in the second half and Kevin stepped up to take the penalties and showed real professionalism.
"We deserved it, we kept them under real pressure in the second half."
Scott admitted it was big game for his side, coming on the back of defeats against Yeovil Town and Bristol Rovers.
"After a poor performance on Saturday [against Yeovil] I asked for a response and we got it.
"The crowd saw we have the fight, ability and everything they want from a Brentford team."
