Brentford manager Andy Scott was left "fuming" after watching his team lose 3-2 to Swindon Town, their third defeat in four outings.
The Bees' boss pulled no punched in the criticism of his defenders and said he would consider replacing them if improvements were not forthcoming.
He described his side as a "soft touch" but was happier with the performance of Carl Cort - who scored his first Brentford goal and was described as "magnificent" by Scott.
"I'm fuming," continued Scott. "If I could rip heads off I would do.
"We have been beaten by a side we shouldn't have been beaten by. We should have won that game, we are the better side.
"We lost because we gave away three goals.
"The third goal typified it - Mark Phillips hasn't got a challenge in and their striker has a free shot.
"The first two goals we defended too deep and for the third Mark Phillips dangles his leg out, lets him come inside and gives him a chance to get a shot in.
"It's depressing, we have worked so hard to get back into it.
"If we had shut up shop and kept doing what we were doing we would have got a point at least, and probably won it."
Scott bemoaned his side's slow start as The Bees conceded a goal at home in the first ten minutes for the third game in a row.
"I wish we could start from minute one," he said. "We are a soft touch, we were not close to defending those goals.
"Our centre halves were too deep and our central midfield couldn't get into the game.
"Their central midfield ran the game because we were too deep.
"The way we defended in the first half wasn't good enough all round.
"It really grates me, we work hard on defending all week and it comes to today and it looks like we haven't thought about it.
"I might change it for Friday [away at Hartlepool United]. Our performances have got to change, we need to be harder to beat.
"If you are solid, you win games in this league."
