CORT NEVER STOPPED BELIEVING

Posted on: Sun 04 Oct 2009

Brentford striker Carl Cort admitted he had been frustrated with his goal less run after notching for the first time in the 3-2 defeat to Swindon Town.

The ex-Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward brought The Bees back into the game when they were 2-0 down with a low strike from 20 yards but Swindon scored again minutes later and held on for the win.

Cort said he never lost belief in his ability and confirmed he was 100 per cent fit after an ankle injury which had kept him out for a month.

"The result was a shame," he said. "On a personal note it was good to get off the mark.

"It's frustrating as a forward not scoring week in week out but I always believed it would come.

"I scored at a time we started to pile the pressure on but it wasn't meant to be.

"We said at half time the game was still there for us, and the wind was going to be going our way as well.

"We put the pressure on and the goal came.

"Their third goal was a good strike but it could have been prevented."

Cort admitted The Bees will have to improve and said everyone had to take responsibility.

"It's a team game," he continued. "There are times we have chances and we miss, defenders make mistakes and it costs goals.

"We know as a team and certain individuals know we need to work on different things and get them right."
