Left back Ryan Dickson admitted Brentford's 2-0 victory over Stockport County was a "relief".
The defender - named Man-of-the-Match by the sponsors - said there was anxiety around the camp to pick up the points and the result meant everyone was now more relaxed.
"We are very happy," he said. "It's a relief to get the three points, the boys have been anxious to get the points.
"It was important to keep a clean sheet and the first goal came at a good time.
"In the first half I was surprised they were defensive but once they went 1-0 down they pushed more men forward.
"For the last 20 minutes they had more or less five up top.
"It's naïve to think you will control the game for 90 minutes and it's important to get forward when you have the chance.
"Now we have to be more consistent, scoring goals, creating chances and defensively.
"We need to stick together and maybe be a bit more aggressive in the way we are playing."
