CARLISLE WILL BE ON !

Posted on: Mon 11 Jan 2010

Acting CEO David Heath spoke re Saturday's proposed fixture v Carlisle immediately after the Referee had called off tomorrow night's FA Cup fixture v Doncaster ;

"We're all bitterly disappointed at losing the fixture tomorrow night despite the terracing and areas around Griffin Park having improved tremendously since I visited late Saturday afternoon despite a light dusting of snow overnight. I discussed with the Match referee earlier the Met Office forecast which shows that temperatures only reach a maximum 1 degree today and tomorrow but also that tomorrow should see light snow late afternoon plus the return of the bitter windchill with heavy snow tomorrow night. The pitch is actually soft in a few areas places under the snow but the match v Doncaster could not go ahead safely.

"So, Carlisle on Saturday - the good news is that the Met Office are currently forecasting 3 degrees on Wednesday, 4 degrees Thursday and 5 degrees on Friday (including overnight) so if that remains the case, the Carlisle game will definitely be on as those temperatures are more than sufficient to see a thaw of the present conditions. We have a number of ground staff and helpers together with some youth team players who will be removing all of the current snow tomorrow morning which will make any fresh snow tomorrow evening be easier to remove so we can get the game on on Saturday. We're aware that there will be a tremendous amount of moisture on or just under the surface once everything has thawed but have booked the Blotter machine for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

"We all need our football fix and unless there's a dramatic change to the current weather forecast, we'll be treated to 90 minutes of the Bees in action on Saturday afternoon"
