Brentford manager Andy Scott hailed a "good team performance" after the 3-1 win over Carlisle United.

The Bees boss admitted his team had not started well but said once they got their noses in front they were the better side.

"I wasn't pleased with the way we started," explained Scott. "We haven't played for a while and there was a bit of rustiness.

"With conditions the way they were we needed to be on the front foot and it took us a while to get there.

"For the first 20 or 25 minutes it looked as though we were waiting for them to do something, although we did defend solidly during that period.

"Then we started to get players on the ball and when we got ahead we never looked back and probably created more today than we have in a long time.

"We wanted to continue the momentum we had [around] Christmas and we were better if anything, certainly in the second half."

Scott confirmed Sam Saunders was unavailable for the match as he was ill and said he would be meeting with Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to try and extend the loan spells of John Bostock and Wojciech Szczesny, which end this week.

He was also unhappy about the ward of a penalty against Leon Legge for a foul on Scott Dobie, which gave Ian Harte the chance to pull the visitors back into it - although Myles Weston's brace and a Ryan Dickson goal meant it did not affect the result.

"It was never a penalty," said Scott. "The referee said afterwards he thought it was a penalty but he didn't send Leon off, I don't think he was sure so he didn't send him off.

"It was a poor decision and I'm disappointed for the team, we deserved a clean sheet and we played well enough to get one."
