SCOTT PROUD OF NORWICH DISPLAY

Posted on: Sun 24 Jan 2010

Brentford manager Andy Scott said he was delighted with the way his team played in their 1-0 defeat against free-spending promotion-chasing Norwich City.

The Bees lost a League One game for the first time since the beginning of December when Chris Martin struck a late winner for the home side.

Scott said he was proud of the way his team played and added the fact Norwich goalkeeper Fraser Foster was named Man of the Match summed up the way it had gone.

"We had some excellent chances," said Scott. "We hit the post, Myles Weston missed a re-bound.

"Their keeper got Man of the Match, that tells you everything.

"Wojciech made some good saves but you expect your goalkeeper to have to make saves here.

"We switched off at the vital moment, Chris Martin is in good form and he scored.

"I'm proud of the way we played, we were well in the game when it was 11 v 11.

"We kept it comfortable into half time and were growing in stature.

"To come away with no points is disappointing."

Scott hailed the performance of Sam Wood, who did a man to man marking job on Wes Hoolahan, and said he was pleased with how the tactic worked.

"Hoolahan is a good player," said Scott."He finds the ball and makes things work.

"We had Sam Wood on him, it frustrated him, it worked a treat.

"I thought we had an opportunity to go for it in the second half and we posed them problems.

"I was pleased with the way we set up."

Scott said the performance showed how close Brentford are to being a team that could challenge near the top of the table in League One.

"We are disappointed we lost 1-0 at Carrow Road," said Scott. "We have already taken three points off them.

"Over the last three months we have shown we have a set of lads that are very capable.

"The more we learn from this season it will help us next season to develop further.

"I'm delighted with how we played today and I have been delighted with how we responded since we had a dip in form."
