Brentford midfielder Marcus Bean said the team were "gutted" they ended up on the wrong end of the result against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
The Bees lost 1-0 to the promotion-chasing East Anglian side and Bean said he felt it was not what they deserved.
"We applied ourselves really well," said Bean. "Even before they went down to ten men.
"We had a few chances, I thought we were dominant second half.
"We can take heart from the chances we created, [Sam] Wood hit the post, Kevin [O'Connor] made their keeper pull off a great save.
"The boys are gutted."
Bean said he had never been kicked as much in a match as he was at Carrow Road and admitted he could have done with more protection from referee Steve Rushton.
He also described the challenge from Grant Holt on Toumani Diagouraga that lead to his sending off as "cowardly".
"If you are going to win the league you have to have a toughness," said Bean, "And they definitely have that but we could have done with a bit more protection."
