SMITH HAILS "GREAT RESULT"

Posted on: Sun 07 Feb 2010

Defender Tommy Smith said the 4-0 win against Gillingham was a "great result".

The centre back - who extended his loan spell from Ipswich Town to 93 days - hailed the performance in the victory, which was secured thanks to two penalties from Charlie MacDonald and a Myles Weston brace.

"Everyone played really well," said Smith. "We knew it would be a battle, I heard about the game earlier in the season and what happened there.

"They came out of the blocks fast but we dealt with it.

"We got the first penalty against the run of play, after that their heads went down a bit.

"We went on and scored the goals.

"It was a great result."

Smith said the team spirit in the camp helps them to get through stages in the game when the opposition are on top.

"Everyone pulls together," he added. "We are all together and we come together strongly when we are under the cosh.

"I'm really happy to be here playing games, coming to Brentford was a good opportunity for me."
