Charlie MacDonald said he was "bitterly disappointed" that Brentford had been beaten 2-1 at Walsall.

The striker notched his tenth goal of the season to give The Bees the lead by they conceded a first half equaliser before Walsall struck a later winner.

MacDonald, who described Brentford's second half performance as shocking, said he was pleased to get to double figures but the goal ended up being worth nothing.

"We controlled the game in the first half," said MacDonald. "But we stopped doing the things we were doing.

"They took control.

"They wanted it more than us, they did the things we didn't and got the goal to win the game.

"We are bitterly disappointed."

MacDonald explained The Bees stopped playing the ball into the channels in the second period and tried intricate passing in the midfield, which they had not done in the first half.

"We didn't put it in behind them [after half time]," said MacDonald. "And it shows when you look at the performances in both halves.

"We got punished and it has happened a few times.

"We need to learn, if we don't it will keep happening."

MacDonald said he was hopeful he would sign a contract to keep him at Brentford past the end of the season.

"I'm very happy here," he added. "I have had two good years and I want a few more."
