STREVENS CLAIMS LEEDS GOAL

Posted on: Sun 07 Mar 2010

Ben Strevens was in no doubt he was the man who scored the goal that gave Brentford the lead at Elland Road.

Strevens was officially credited the goal for The Bees in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United, who salvaged a point thanks to a Jermaine Beckford strike.

After the match, manager Andy Scott said he thought Charlie MacDonald had got the goal but Strevens was convinced it was him.

"The final touch came off me," he said. "That's what I was told.

"I'm definitely going to claim it.

"The gaffer [Andy Scott] said I need to score more, he has been on at me to get in the box more.

"It ricocheted around, it came off me, came off someone else and went in.

"I will take anything."

Strevens admitted he would have liked to have scored more goals but said he hoped he could hit the net a few more times, and was confident he would do so if he got a run in the team.

"I'm a confidence player," he added. "If I play week in, week out I will play better.

"When I'm in and out of the side it's hard to get a run.

"Carl Cort is a great player but he has had a few injuries and I'm battling to keep myself ahead of him.

"I would have liked to have scored a few more but sometimes you have to play for the team.

"Every striker would like to score goals, I bet there are others all over the country saying what I'm saying."
