Striker Carl Cort vowed to keep applying the pressure for a starting place after coming off the bench to score a last-gasp equaliser in Brentford's 3-3 draw with Milton Keynes Dons.
The experienced forward steered home a 94th minute leveller - Brentford's third equaliser of the afternoon - just minutes after Milton Keynes had taken the lead for the third time.
Cort, who came on as an 89th minute substitute, described the game as "fast and furious" and said he was doing all he could to earn a chance to start.
When asked about his goal, Cort said: "I was surprised how much space I had with them being ahead and with their being a couple of minutes to go.
"I was able to keep my composure and tuck it away.
"We have a good record at home and we have that way about us - never giving up - we proved it today.
"This league is very direct, a lot of teams get results from fitness and percentage football.
"That showed today and that's sometimes how games go.
"That is what we have to be able to do if we want to be at the top of the table."
Cort said he was much fitter now than he had been in recent years and hailed the work of the Brentford coaching staff for getting him through the season injury free.
"In terms of games played it hasn't been brilliant," said Cort, who last started a game in November. "But the most important thing is that I'm fit.
"I can only do what I did today - take my chances when I get thrown on - there are a lot of games coming up and I'm ready for it."
