Brentford manager Andy Scott said his players showed determination to bounce back from defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday.
The Bees recovered from that 3-0 loss to win 1-0 against Stockport County at Edgeley Park.
Charlie MacDonald scored the only goal of the game and Scott described the result as "massive".
"There was a determination today to put right the wrongs of Tuesday," said Scott. "We have certainly done that.
"We gave them too many chances in the first half but we had some good chances ourselves and could have scored in the first minute.
"Defensively we were a little bit too open [in the first half], second half we restricted them.
"We could have sealed it and scored a couple more goals.
"It was a big win, it's a difficult place to come with the pitch as it is.
"We needed to step it up ten per cent after half time - Myles Weston terrorised their right back all afternoon, he put in a great cross and it was on a plate for Charlie."
Scott described the performance of Karleigh Osborne - who started a game for the first time in four months - as "outstanding" and revealed he had exchanged words with the defender in the build up to the match.
He said Ryan Dickson may be out for the season with a hamstring injury and Mark Phillips also may not play again this campaign while Leon Legge will be assessed.
Scott also confirmed he had inquired about the possibility of bringing Pim Balkestein back to Griffin Park.
"To come away with a clean sheet and a win [in those circumstances] was massive," he added.
"Any win is important, we need to get to 52 points and we are three points closer."
