Defender Karleigh Osborne said he has his Brentford future in his own hands after he helped The Bees to a clean sheet in his first appearance for four months.
Osborne was lauded by manager Andy Scott as "outstanding" after Brentford's 1-0 win against Stockport County.
The defender - who came back after not featuring in Bees' squads for nearly a month to partner Leon Legge at the heart of defence - said he would continue to do his best and hope it will be good enough.
"I tried to give my best," said Osborne. "Hopefully it was good enough.
"All I can do is try my hardest and try to improve as much as I can in games and training and go from there - it's in my hands.
"If I keep performing game in, game out and doing the best I can [I hope I can keep my place]."
Osborne said the surface made it difficult to defend but his team dealt with the conditions well.
And he said it was important to pick up the win.
"We needed the points," added Osborne. "We need to start on a good run again."
