SCOTT SEES "CARBON COPY"

Posted on: Sat 01 May 2010

Brentford manager Andy Scott described his team's 3-2 defeat to Swindon Town as a "carbon copy" of the loss to them at Griffin Park.

The Wiltshire club were the last team to beat The Bees in a League One match at Griffin Park when they won 3-2 in October and Scott said many of the things that happened in that loss happened in the defeat at the County Ground.

The Bees' boss explained Pim Balkestein had been taken to hospital as he had a problem with his nose and they would find out in due course has happened to him.

It is understood he also complained of neck pain after a mid-air collision with Charlie Austin and had to be stretchered off with his head locked still.

Scott said: "It was an exciting game, we made three poor errors for their goals.

"It was a carbon copy of what happened at Griffin Park.

"We have built our success on doing things right - defensively we didn't do that today.

"Their third goal was typical of how they exploited what we should have been doing and weren't.

"You can't give Billy Paynter chances like that.

"But we had a good go - you look at the side and bench we had out, we are running on empty, we are down to the bare bones.

"We gave a good account of ourselves."

Scott explained Carl Cort has a broken bone in his foot which had ruled him out and Sam Saunders was also injured.

He added: "We are disappointed we lost the game.

"Apart from their three goals they had one shot that Wojciech [Szczesny] saved.

"Sam Wood had a fantastic chance, Mark Phillips had an unbelievable chance at the end.

"There were times in the first half when we were in the ascendency.

"This shows how close we are - Swindon can go up automatically.

"If we believe we can get there - we will."

Scott also paid tribute to captain Kevin O'Connor, who became only the sixth Brentford player to make 400 appearances for the club.

He added: "It's a magnificent achievement and he deserves all the plaudits.

"He typifies everything I want to do at this club - he is a great lad to have around."
