Following the last game of the season the FA asked the Club to explain the actions of a very small number of the home crowd. After the match the Club released a statement thanking the majority of it's supporters for their exemplary behaviour both during and immediately after the game, whilst this might appear in contradiction to the Football Associations request it is a compliment to the general behaviour of the Griffin Park crowd that day and over the course of the season.
Whilst the majority of the Griffin Park crowd clearly wanted to enjoy the game and celebrate the success of the Team back in League One there were a couple of disappointing incidents on the day which might have resulted in serious financial implications for the Football Club in the event of fines and or sanctions being imposed, whilst also distressing a number of our true supporters. Brentford Football Club has written to the FA with a full review of all safety planning in place for this and all games during the season. Though these incidents might be excused as minor we do not intend to allow their frequency to escalate. Over the past season there has been a general increases in 'incident reports' from specific areas around the ground during home games and again on isolated occasions at our away fixtures. Brentford Football Club is proud of it's 'family appeal' and will not tolerate any growth of a disruptive atmosphere during either our home or away fixtures. In response Brentford Football Club will be taking a zero tolerance policy for serious incidents in and around Griffin Park and will have no hesitation in taking any necessary action against any supporter found to be bringing the reputation of the Club into question or disrepute.
A major challenge over the next few seasons will be to steadily grow our supporter base and match day crowd so we might continue to progress with our ambitions both on and off the pitch, the match day experience of our crowds will certainly have a major impact on our ability to achieve this. In response we have set up an e mail address which will allow supporters to report and incidents direct to the senior safety steward and match day control office either before during or after matches.
With this in mind we will also be taking the following action and intend to monitor the situation closely over the coming season. The coming season will see an increase in policing around specific areas of the ground, whilst the CCTV system has been greatly improved and reviewed following every game to identify any supporters that continue to cause problems in and around the stadium, match day stewarding will continue to be monitored and the Club will not hesitate where necessary to use the full range of recourse against any supporter intent on bringing the Club into disrepute including the use of Banning Orders and Police Prosecution.
We do not underestimate the unique position that Brentford Football Club holds in both the local and wider football community and the potential value this brings to the future of the football club, both the Club and the supporters must continue to take the responsibility to protect both the goodwill and the reputation seriously at all times. Whilst a good reputation might take years to build it can be lost very, very quickly. We do not intend to let that happen.
Brentford Football Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all supporters for their continued consideration and understanding and remind you that you can now report any incident before during or after the game to the following e mail address; incident@brentfordfc.co.uk.
