WalsallTHE OPPOSITION

Walsall may welcome their first away game of the season after kicking off the campaign with two home defeats.

The Midlands club lost to Milton Keynes Dons in their League One opener last weekend and then bowed out of the Carling Cup in midweek against Tranmere Rovers.

This is Walsall's fourth season back in League One after one season in the basement division, which ended in them taking the League Two title.

They have slotted happily into mid-table since their return, despite going three managers in that time, and finished tenth last year - one place behind The Bees - after successive 13th place finishes.

Walsall ended the season well, with one defeat in their last eight games, but suffered a blow just before the start of the new campaign when Troy Deeney, who scored 14 goals last term, was sold to Championship outfit Watford for £500,000.

Some of that cash has been made available for new signings and there may be new additions to the Walsall squad for the trip to Griffin Park.

Chris HutchingsTHE MANAGER

Chris Hutchings has been Walsall boss for 18 months after taking over from Jimmy Mullen in January 2009.

This is the 53-year-old's third stab at management and he is already making a better fist of it.

After replacing Paul Jewell - to whom he was assistant - at both Bradford City and Wigan Athletic he lasted just 12 Premier League games at each club and went back to coaching.

He linked up with Jewell again at Derby County but left when Nigel Clough took over at Pride Park and took over at Walsall a few weeks later.

Darren ByfieldTHE DANGER MAN

Darren Byfield will lead from the front for Walsall this weekend after being named their new captain in the summer.

The 34-year-old is in his second spell with the Midlands club - he spent two years with The Saddlers at the start of the new Millennium and is renowned for scoring the goal which won them promotion to the second tier via the play-offs in 2001.

He returned in the summer of 2009 after spells at Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland among others and hit the net ten times last year.

Steve JonesTHE FORMER BEE

None of the players on Walsall's books have previously played for Brentford but they do have three men who hit the net against The Bees last year.

Steve Jones scored for The Saddlers in the 1-1 League One draw at Griffin Park and Alex Nicholls scored one and made one as they won the reverse fixture.

New left back Aaron Lescott also scored at Griffin Park last term, for Bristol Rovers in the west country club's 3-1 win.

Craig Woodman after Cheltenham WinTHE BRENTFORD VIEW

Left back Craig Woodman said the game would feature two teams very keen to get their first win under their belts.

The defender - speaking immediately after the Carling Cup victory over Cheltenham Town where he scored the winner and made another goal for Robbie Simpson - said he remembered what it was like to come to Griffin Park as an opposition player, particularly when at Wycombe Wanderers for the past three seasons, and said the players had to keep the club's formidable home record going.

Woodman said: "We want to forget about Saturday['s defeat against Carlisle United], take the positive from [the win over Cheltenham] and go into Walsall.

"It's early days - there will be two teams that want the points but it's who wants them the most.

"We have got to make [Griffin Park] our home and make it hard for teams to come here and win.

"[Brentford] only lost two games here last season, we have got to make it hard for teams who come here.

"This is where we will pick up most of our points."
