Luis Melville: If we can discuss the Carling Cup draw from last night, can I get your reaction to getting Hull in the second round?
Andy Scott: I am pretty pleased with that draw and that we are at home. They are a big club and they've got a very good manager in Nigel Pearson. I think we will give them a good game. Tuesday night's League Cup win was our first in a few years in so we will be looking to follow that one up with another one.

Luis Melville: I suppose of all the clubs you could have drawn from outside the Premier League they were one of the toughest?
Andy Scott: Any team you play above you is going to be tough. Obviously they are backed up by the Premier League parachute payments that helps them to maintain a decent squad. As you say it's going to be tough but it will be nice to welcome back John Bostock who has performed very well with the various England teams he has played. Hopefully he will do well at Hull as well.

Luis Melville: What are your thoughts on the structure of the draw and the seeding in The Carling Cup?
Andy Scott: It gives the lower clubs a chance to get a reasonably attractive tie and get more income. For us with it being a home tie it gives us the chance of getting a big club to Griffin Park as it doesn't happen too often. It's one of the changes they have made to the way they conduct the draw and it's their way of keeping interest. However, it makes it easier for the bigger clubs to progress so it's probably not the fairest way of doing it. It's not a natural draw but we're pleased with the draw we have got. I'd rather be at home to Hull than have to travel up there. We've got a lot of games coming up including the Johnston Paint Trophy at the end of the month as well. The less midweek travelling we do the better.

Luis Melville: So you wouldn't want to see that format come in for The FA Cup?
Andy Scott: No definitely not. That's the beauty of The FA Cup. Anyone can draw anyone else. You can get two Premier League clubs draw each other in the third round or two non league clubs draw each other. I wouldn't be happy with changing how it currently operates.

Luis Melville: Tuesday's performance against Cheltenham was a little up and down. Is one of the issues you have got to overcome is that due to all the late signings you are effectively having to do a second 'tactical' pre-season trying to integrate the new players into how you want to play?
Andy Scott: Yes. But we are having to do it in competitive matches. We are barking out instructions and information during the game because you can't work on everything in training when players have come in this late and effectively missed the pre-season tactical work. We have had to work on some fitness as well as someone like Pim played only one game before he came to us. He is still feeling his way back into it. Also we have had to make a few changes with Toumani not being available. It's going to take a while to gel but we are seeing signs of improvement and we know the areas we have to work on. We train hard and we train specifically on what we need to iron out before the next game comes around.

Luis Melville: Do you think everyone just needs to be a little bit patient as you are effectively having to use competitive games to get those things right as you ran out of pre-season games with the late signings?
Andy Scott: It's difficult as I understand people expect us to go flying out of the traps but I have said to people over the last 2 seasons that it does take time to gel especially when you have to rebuild sides. That is how we probably get it right but this year may take a bit longer because of the timing of those players who came in so late. I'm very, very pleased with the signings we have made. We've got some good players at this club. Clearly they have been used to playing a different way and it will take a while for them to adjust to our system. When everything clicks together we will kick on from there.

Luis Melville: I suppose although you have got a good scouting network until you get them on the training ground you never really know?
Andy Scott: All the players that I have brought in I have watched. Sometimes it's not ideal for what we want so we have to make slight adjustments for what we want to do but most of the time they are signed because they can fit in to the way we play.

Luis Melville: You mentioned Toumani and his family. How are they all doing?
Andy Scott: He's fine and they are all fine. He will be back in training today and rested and hopefully in contention for Saturday.

Luis Melville: And your injury issues?
Andy Scott: Charlie is coming back slowly but surely as he played another half an hour on Tuesday. Kirk (Hudson) is out for a little while with a groin injury. It's not a major problem but he needs some time to recover. Corty should be training next week. Myles is progressing nicely but this Saturday may be too soon for him but we will be monitoring him very closely.

Luis Melville: There are still a couple of weeks left in the transfer window. Is there any activity from you?
Andy Scott: Not actively at the moment. We are keeping tabs on things and we are aware of who is and who isn't available. If the right one comes up for us then we will try and bring them in. We are close to having the squad that I want.

Luis Melville: A tricky game on Saturday as you had 3 titanic games against Walsall last season. They have moved out 14 or 15 players so they will be another team difficult to gauge?
Andy Scott: Last year we had a fairly even battle against them in all the games. Chris is another good manager and tactically aware. He has brought in a lot of new players. A lot of teams are in a similar situation to us this year in that the personnel have changed considerably. Generally most clubs left it late to start bringing in players so a lot of teams are in the same boat as us. We are expecting a tight game.

Luis Melville: As they have lost both their opening games, do you expect them to be quite defensive initially?
Andy Scott: Chris has got his way of playing and they are not massively open in the way they play. They attack with pace and have some good goal scorers. Darren Byfield has scored goals wherever he has played. We know that they have got a threat but we have got to exploit their weaknesses and try and get a positive result and get off the mark.

Luis Melville: Talking tactics you spoke about them after Tuesday's game and said teams tend to look at what is in vogue and try and replicate that. Are you going to firmly stick to your way?
Andy Scott: I think that the players we have in and the way we play suits everyone. We have got the option of changing it but I'd rather not do that as we believe that we are strong enough and competitive enough to win games the way we play. If there is a problem and we are not competing the way I want them to then I can change it or we have personnel on the bench to do that. We can also change the formation to nullify any threat that is coming at us. That is the beauty of having a stronger squad. I'd like to think we wouldn't have to change our tactics as the game goes on because we would be doing well enough but the option is there if needed it.

Luis Melville: I am sure everyone is looking forward to Saturday and the first 3 points of the season.
Andy Scott: That's the idea and to try and get as many people in to cheer us on.

Luis Melville: Thanks very much and Good Luck.
Andy Scott: Cheers
