Brentford manager Andy Scott admitted the positives he drew from his team's performance against Walsall were negated by the fact they ended on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line.
The Bees dominated the match but the Midlands outfit struck the winner early in the second half in the only period Scott's men were off the pace.
Scott said the first 45 minutes were the most dominant he had seen his team since he took over in December 2007 but admitted defensive mistakes had lead to them losing the match.
"We are very disappointed," said Scott. "Losing a game is never easy to take, we don't like losing at home.
"We don't like losing in the way we did with the goals we have conceded.
"It's a game we should never have lost but fair play to Walsall, they had something to hold to and were able to do that.
"[The goals we conceded] were the sort of things we do day in day out in training but the players have to do it as a group [in matches].
"The disappointing thing for me was the first half.
"It was the most dominant I think we have been since I have been in charge but we only came in 1-1.
"We didn't start properly in the second half and no matter how much play we had or chances we created we couldn't get a second goal.
"It's very, very disappointing.
"We will keep working on what we need to do and try to be more ruthless.
"There are a lot of good things we did today but it gets obscured by the result - we have lost the game."
